Jean Ziegler ist eine lebende Legende. Der Professor für Soziologie kann als der bekannteste deutschsprachige Globalisierungskritiker bezeichnet werden. Trotz seiner 81 Jahre strotzt der Mann nur so vor Optimismus. Sein Ziel bleibt es, den entfesselten Raubtierkapitalismus endlich in die Mülltonne der Geschichte zu schicken.

Ziegler hat sich in all den Jahren, auch als UN-Sonderbotschafter für das Recht auf Nahrung, nie mit der globalen Ungerechtigkeit des vorherrschenden Wirtschaftssystems abgefunden.

Er schrieb zahlreiche Bücher, in denen er Ross und Reiter benannte, und wurde dafür von Konzernen und Banken in den wirtschaftlichen Ruin geklagt. Doch Jean Ziegler gibt nie auf.

Alle 5 Sekunden verhungert ein Kind, obwohl der Planet heute locker 12 Milliarden Menschen ernähren könnte. Ziegler nennt diesen Umstand Mord, doch er glaubt an die Empathie des Menschen.

Ziegler hatte große Lehrer. Er war mit Jean-Paul Sartre und Simone de Beauvoir befreundet, arbeitete vorübergehend als Chauffeur von Che Guevara, erlebte den Freiheitskampf des Thomas Sankara, und hat sich von der Aufrichtigkeit dieser Idole anstecken lassen.
